ABOUT US

This home was built and designed in 1976 by Carroll and Jane Fleniken. Jane’s love and passion for collecting French antiques sent her and her family on many trips abroad to France. Eventually, she started her own antique business, Antiques and Interiors.

Influenced by French business owners who actually live where they work, she began collecting old doors, shutters, windows, and cypress beams to build their dream house, a replica of a French Chateau. The attention to these details created an architectural design that truly does capture the old charm of chateaus found in the countryside of France.

Antiques and Interiors flourished at this original location until 1998, with the addition of a Bed and Breakfast, Country French B & B, in the latter years. Jane has since relocated the antique shop to 618 E. University Avenue in Lafayette, where she still flourishes as one of the best known French antique dealers in Louisiana.

Presently owned by Jane’s son, Greg Fleniken, and his wife Susie Aycock Fleniken, the chalet remains the home of Country French Bed and Breakfast. Still admired as one of Lafayette’s most distinct architectural attractions, Susie and Greg’s passion for nature and horticulture is evident in the beautiful gardens and host of bird feeders throughout the grounds. Susie operates the Bed and Breakfast, and warmly welcomes her guests as they experience a “little piece of France in the heart of the city”.
